The Misterioso 2014 was made from a blend of mostly Grenache and Syrah. It contains a small amount of Mourvedre and carignan as well. This wine is sourced from our ‘Les Rabasses’ vineyard which consists entirely of classic blue/grey schist. The Grenache and Mourvedre vines are trained in the traditional ‘Goblet’ style while the Syrah sits across the top of the hill and is trained on pallisage. The vineyards have been minimally worked to avoid compaction of the subsoil and sprayed with organic sprays to prevent mildew.
The varieties were picked separately with an aim to make a wine that was fresh and fruity with soft tannins. We tasted the grapes until they fit this profile then harvested them by hand. The grapes were sorted in the vineyards so only the best quality fruit arrived at the cellar.This wine has a deep rich ripe cherry appearance. The aromas are of baked dark cherries, roasted peanuts, leather and nutmeg spice smells too. The palate is again dominated by cherries but there is some attractive strawberry characters, dried herbs and pepper combined with fine tannins. The wine finishes dry but a balanced acidity helps to lengthen the palate.

Domaine La Sarabande was established so that Paul and Isla could fulfill their dreams of making serious long living robust wines. The vineyards have been carefully selected to establish a balanced mix of schist soils, good drainage, good aspect and a mix of young and very old vines. The vineyards are organic which means that no chemical herbicides or fungicides are used. Only organic fertiliser is used to replenish the soils. The winemaking is a combination of old and new world techniques. This means that the wines are hand harvested, naturally fermented and are bottled unfiltered and unfined. The strong emphisis is to bottle wines that express the soils and climate of the vineyard while being technically correct and are free of wine faults and spoilage.
